RU´S PROJECT HAPPINESS

1. DO SPORTS

In a good week that´s two visits to the swimming pool, two visits to the climbing gym and one climbing trip.

2. GET OUT

Do realise that you need some fresh air, just like a 1950s baby did. Working in front of a computer and then relaxing in front of one is not a good idea. If you are not into hiking or the weather is bad, at least leave your house after a Saturday siesta swearing not to be back by 9 o´clock: attending public exhibitions counts too if you walk to and from the city centre.

3. DON´T SNACK

Three meals a day, always at the same time, always at a table and mostly without the TV on. One of the two lunch courses is always boiled vegetables and one of the two dinner courses is usually a salad. Alcohol intake – maybe a couple of beers at the weekend and getting drunk once every few months (take with you only the amount of money you want to spend on alcohol and when it runs out, come back home). As to sweet things, if you were given a bar of chocolate for Christmas, most of it should still be there in late April.

4. SLEEP WELL

Invest a fortune in a good bed and mattress. Sleep with the windows closed and the shutters down to get rid of any outside noises or lights.

5. GET ON WELL WITH PEOPLE

Call on your parents almost every evening for a quick chat and dine with them at least twice a week for a really close bond. Do sports with your sibling to socialise and compete at the same time. See your friends regularly, and I mean all your friends, from kindergarten on, even if it´s only a beer once every two years with the latter. Call your girlfriend a princess and treat her accordingly. Claim that the most important thing for you is to keep her happy.

6.  HAVE A CAT

Stroking a cat reduces stress levels – very useful if you are dining with your parents at the same time.

7. DON´T WATCH TV

Of course you can watch films on DVDs but not to often (maybe one every two months or so) – it´s much better to talk to people,  instead of watching a screen together in silence. Any series are out of the question, unless you count as one a series of climbing/surfing videos.

8. DON´T OVERUSE INTERNET

Reading about something silly on yahoo or checking out people´s photos on whatsapp is acceptable, as well as a mild addiction to second-hand car ads, but all those social networks are just silly.

9. SING MADE-UP SONGS AND ACT SILLY

Sing impromptu songs about what you are up to right now (“I´m peelinga  carrot, a carrot, a carrot”), grab your girlfriend to swing her around shrieking or jump on your bike like a showing off 13-year-old.

10. EVERY EVENING THANK FOR ALL YOUR BLESSINGS OUT LOUD

You can walk, you have a job, a flat with electricity and hot running water, a comfortable bed and someone to hug to. Isn´t it amazing? And even if something happens, and you remind yourself that it might every day, you still have many lovely memories inside of you or inside other people that know you.

11. AH, AND DON´T WORRY TOO MUCH.
